The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction instills hope in the supporters of each franchise every year as they eagerly await some standout additions to the squad that will aid them in the regular season. The mini-auction held in Kochi on Friday saw some players start a bidding war, with some selling for enormous sums of money and others failing to land a spot in any franchise. This year was no different.

After enjoying a respectable season in the last iteration of the prestigious competition, the Lucknow team made their second appearance in the auction this year. Nevertheless, the team relied primarily on their top order to score runs, and the middle order lacked the firepower needed to help the team score a lot of runs and take the lead. The management recruited players from the auction ahead of the upcoming season who might make an impact and lead them to success.

The team appears to have improved after adding players like West Indies batter Nicholas Pooran for INR 16 crores during the auction. For a base price of INR 50 Lakh, LSG also hired Amit Mishra, the oldest player to participate in the auction. For the upcoming season, veteran pacer Jaydev Unadkat will also don the Lucknow jersey, and the team will want to capitalise on his expertise.

Lucknow IPL Team 2024 Owner

Sanjiv Goenka’s RPSG group is the owner of the Lucknow IPL team. RPSG won the bidding war for 7,090 crore (over US $ 932 million) to own Lucknow’s equipment.

He is also the current Chairman of the Board of Directors of Woodlands Medical Center Ltd, Kolkata. Born in 1961, Sanjiv Goenka is currently Canada’s Honorary Consul in Kolkata.

In April 2001, he assumed the post of youngest President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), was appointed Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT-KGP) and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata (IIM-Kolkata).
